How to read this calendar
The full moon is a single worldwide instant; only its clock time changes with your time zone. When that instant falls near midnight, the calendar date itself can shift by one day depending on where you live — which is why serious calendars always state their time zone. The table above switches to yours automatically.
Each date links to the story of that month's named moon — where the name comes from, what the almanacs made of it, and the engraving Plenilune drew for it.
A year in the almanac
Twelve lunations do not quite fill a year — the synodic month lasts 29.53 days — so the dates drift earlier from month to month, and some years count thirteen full moons. When two of them fall in the same calendar month, the second is popularly called a blue moon; the table marks it when 2026 has one. The Moon will not look blue: the phrase is calendar folklore, not optics.
Questions
- What time is the full moon in 2026?
- Each full moon has its own exact instant — there is no fixed hour. The table on this page gives the time of each 2026 full moon in your time zone, computed with the standard Meeus algorithms.
- Is there a blue moon in 2026?
- A blue moon — the second full moon of a calendar month — depends on the time zone you count in, precisely because dates can shift by a day near midnight. The table above flags the case for your zone, if 2026 gives you one.
- Why does my paper calendar show a different date?
- Printed calendars are set for one reference time zone, often UTC or the publisher's country. If the instant of the full moon falls near midnight, your local date can honestly differ by one day.
